By supporting the Pietermaritzburg & District Community Chest you're making a positive impact on communities, bringing relief and enhancement to the lives of many thousands of people in distress.
The Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest is registered with SARS under Section 18A of the Income Tax Act which provides tax relief on donations to the Chest. To qualify for this tax relief, donations need to be made to the PIETERMARITZBURG & DISTRICT COMMUNITY CHEST S18A FUND which will be acknowledged with the appropriate receipt, which must accompany your tax return. Donations are tax deductible to the extent of the greater of five percent of taxable income or R1 000. A taxpayer with a taxable income of, say R100 000 can donate up to R5 000 a year and enjoy tax deduction for the full amount donated. A salaried taxpayer donating R5 000 would be entitled to a tax refund of R1 500 on assessment. He or she would be out of pocket by only R3 500 but the welfare organisation would be able to deliver public benefit activities to the full value of the R5 000 donated. The tax benefit apply equally to businesses and private individuals. By supporting the Pietermaritzburg & District Community Chest, you can help people in need. In addition, the tax refundable, or reduction in tax payable, means that the taxman is directly supporting our Community in need.
