COMRADES MATTRESSES FIND NEW LIFE IN CHARITIES
The Chest in partnership with the Comrades Marathon board of trustees donated 700 mattresses and blankets to the needy in and around Pietermaritzburg. Particular attention has been paid to the victims of the recent xenophobic violence. This initiative, which was started six years ago, is part of the Comrades Marathon Association’s involvement in social and community upliftment. The blankets and mattresses are first used by indigent runners and then passed on to the Community Chest. Through this successful partnership with Comrades the blankets and mattresses are reaching the poorest of the poor. In total 15 organisations benefited from the initiative this year.
